The Paracas Culture





1. Location: Developed between 700 BCE and 200 A.D. Its discoverer, Julio C. Tello (1925) and divided into two stages: Paracas Caverns and Paracas Necropolis. 







2. Cemeteries: In 1925, Julio C. Tello, excavated in the cemetery Cerro Colorado, finding bottle-shaped tombs and mummies skulls trepanned (Phase Paracas Caverns). In 1927, he discovered the cemetery Warikayán with rectangular tombs and mummies covered with fine embroidered mantles (Phase Paracas Necropolis).







3. Adobe Temples: The best known are the Temples Animas High, Soto, Alvarado and Santa Rosa. In 2006 it was discovered Pernil Citadel High.







4. Government and society: It was ruled by a priestly aristocracy and warrior. The social base formed farmers and fishermen who offered both gifts and jobs to support the worship of the gods.







5. Textiles: Fabrics Paracas Necropolis phase are the most beautiful of ancient Peru. In their garments are embroidered polychrome their gods, priests and rituals.





6. Ceramics: In phase Caverns is polychrome post-fire paint (painting “fugitive “), while in monochrome paint Necropolis is pre - cooked.
